This thing overcame my neighbors' cigarette smell downstairs - the smell was strongest in the bedroom closet, but if I left the windows closed it permeated the entire carpeted one-bedroom apartment. I put the odor absorber in the closet and never smelled smoke again, although I definitely saw the neighbor smoking. It also got rid of the years old smell of a salty wetsuit that used to sit in another closet. After removing the wetsuit itself, I kept trying my mintiest essential oils in this closet.
