I bought these for my mum after hip surgery. A little swelling of the lower extremities after the operation is normal and my mother was by no means excessive but her doctor advised her to wear compression stockings. They fit perfectly, although right after the surgery she couldn't put them on or put them on herself (she could barely move), so I helped.
