The packaging it came in was well made and could withstand the abuse of the mail. There is more than enough bubble wrap around broken glass and I don't think anyone should end up breaking glass jars. As a gift it should have arrived safely but it was for our own home. This allows me to post updates and change ratings as needed. I bought them for VERY coarse Himalayan salt and pink pepper berries. If they work well, I plan to purchase another set within the next 60 days for very coarse salt and black pepper berries that can also be used in the oven. As you might have guessed, I love to cook and spices are a very important part of my culinary life, even though I'm just a homemaker and beautician by trade. one of the glass vessels that is hard to miss. yes i could send it back These are NOT hand blown glass but honestly I was tempted to try them. Before you grind any spices, it's always a good idea to grind the rice first to remove any residue or slivers that may have been left behind from grinding mills. with metal parts. Even though the interior is ceramic parts, I still followed the same guidelines I've always used and the grinders did an excellent job of cleaning. Differences. Ships hold an impressive amount. I do NOT particularly like constant stuffing. I like to fill up about every 90 days and since I cook a lot I think it's safe to say I have space. Here's a tip for the pros. Store a few pieces of rice in salt to keep them from sticking together, especially if you keep them near the stove. However, ALL spices should be stored in a cool, dark place to keep them fresh for as long as possible and to prevent moisture from ruining them. Expectations. I've noticed a big difference with pink pepper berries, although sometimes I just want to add a little extra color and flavor to certain dishes. I highly doubt that the holder is stainless steel and the documentation doesn't mention it. It mentions that the countertops are stainless steel, but as far as the stainless steel quality goes, I'd bet it's grade 200 stainless steel, which is what you'll find in the jars found in many fresh veg sideboards in a salad. bar section. This is one of the cheapest types of stainless steel. It will still work, but the durability and longevity if you abuse it just won't. One thing to keep in mind, however, is who really abuses windmills? You grind them, clean them regularly (if you keep the kitchen clean, this should be normal after use), and acids from various pasta or marinara sauces SHOULD NOT be a problem if you clean them right away. All in all I'd give it an 8.5 out of 10 at the moment, minus 1.5 for the lack of quality control for a flaw in the glass that should have been obvious to anyone involved with packaging or quality control. If there is a problem I will update the review and if I end up with another black pepper and coarse kosher salt set. For the price I would definitely try these grinders.
