Let me start by saying that I had NO cutting/construction mat other than this one. As a result, I see it as someone who went from a bare table to this rug. This mat is beautiful and serves its original purpose, which was for cutting. I can cut the rug without damaging the table underneath. However, it is also very effective for quick imperial measurements with built-in markers enabled. However, the big problem is that while soldering, I accidentally dropped the soldering iron on the mat and burned a "hole" in the mat. I had no idea the hole wasn't a hole at all after switching from the light side to the dark side. The dark side of the carpet remained untouched. IMPRESSIVE! Since that day I can officially say that I am very satisfied with this carpet. I would also like to mention that I am writing this review over a year after purchasing the rug. I bought the mat in August 2015, it is now January 2017 and I still enjoy using this mat on my desk for all engineering work.
