Water Detector and Detector

Every few years my basement drain gets clogged during the summer months and if I don't notice it and remove it in time I have to move furniture, rip rugs, replace carpet pads, etc. to sort it out to avoid mold. This happened to me several times and it was very annoying and time consuming. When I came across this product it seemed like an easy way to prevent water damage in my basement. I wanted to do three things in flood conditions: text myself, set off an alarm, and automatically turn off both air conditioners. (I started implementing my own solution using a Raspberry PI and some very simple circuits, but I never finished it all, so I gave it up in favor of this product). I set up the YoLink hub with a wired LAN connection and placed one of the sensors near an electrical outlet. I set up the YoLink app to send a flood text message and then ran some quick tests to make sure everything was working properly. (The YoLink app shows battery levels and sensor signals to avoid false alarms.) However, the next day when I ran the same tests, nothing worked. The problem was that the hub would not stay connected to the local network for more than a few hours at a time and after the connection was lost it required a power outage to reconnect. I contacted YoLink support and they sent me a new device which I confirmed fixed the issue. All tests I ran after receiving the replacement hub worked flawlessly. I later added a YoLink siren that connects directly to flood sensors in addition to pairing with a hub. After pairing with the sensors, I confirmed that the siren works without an internet connection. The last thing I wanted to do was have the AC units automatically turn off when flood conditions are detected. I thought the easiest way to do this is through thermostats. However, this turned out to be surprisingly difficult since my thermostats are Nest thermostats (which suck for a number of reasons). Finally, I was able to use Alexa's automation to increase the thermostat temperature when flooding was detected, effectively turning off the air conditioners. Eventually I'll probably replace the nests with YoLink thermostats. Aside from the initial issue with the hub I was very happy with this purchase and I really like it once I got everything set up. I've since purchased several other YoLink products and love how easily everything works together.
