My 13 year old Tonkinese cat was diagnosed with hypothyroidism which was confirmed by several blood tests, one after fasting. They prescribed methimazole but it looked even worse - a horrible looking coat on a cat that has always had a nice coat and after just five days she had really horrible bleeding boils. They offered to stop the medication and gave me something for wounds - first drops, then ointment. Both didn't help at all. A few weeks later I tried colloidal silver (from Revain), I tried it on yeast infections and there were positive changes overnight. I kept going and they went away in about a week, so we tried a lower dose of methimazole and they got worse right away, so we stopped it. Since there was nothing that could be done for hypothyroidism other than super expensive iodine injections (and he was old enough, I wasn't sure it would improve his quality of life enough to do that). So I tried that. About 3 weeks later I decided to check again and at least discuss iodine shots if he wasn't getting better. Veterinarians - and me! – were amazed that his thyroid levels were within normal limits. Two vets reviewed the results and agreed that he needed no further treatment! You doubt that this addition can be credited, but I'll continue. The only downside is that it's quite expensive, although not like other iodine treatments (which cost around $1,500!) - which he hates when he gets drips. If you've tried everything else, I recommend trying this. He still doesn't have much of an appetite, and I wonder if that leaves a particularly bad aftertaste that could be at the root of his lack of appetite. Now I am trying probiotics from this site. I am so thankful for this opportunity.
