I have a Roomba robot vacuum that helps me clean the house. It picks up small items from carpet, tile, and laminate reasonably well, if not as perfectly. One feature we love is something that iRobot, the creator of Roomba, developed: visual display of cleaning areas so you can see which parts of the house are covered or not. Roomba is probably the leader in the robotic vacuum market, and that's because of its steep price tag. Also, the Roomba 980 we have is LOUD (more on that later) and sometimes wakes our baby from his nap. My wife gave me a mandate. Find another robot vacuum we could use on a daily basis but not as noisy and use Roomba for a more thorough cleaning. We also needed one that could empty the bin multiple times because our upstairs bedroom carpet sheds LOTS of fibers each time. The Roomba i7+ was $1,000 too expensive and the Neabot sold for less than 3/4 the price. do we like it Yes and no. ADVANTAGES - Very quiet operation - Picks up a lot of dirt - Works on carpets, laminate and tiles - Good suction power, except for deep carpets - Multiple suction modes. When it reaches a deep carpet, it increases suction power (but still makes less noise than the Roomba 980). Too bad it doesn't vacuum up the carpet anymore. Most of the house has been cleaned up, although his sweeping algorithm looks random compared to Roomba's methodical sweeping. - It seemed like he first randomly moved around the house to map the area and THEN announced "cleaning" and really cleaned up. Roomba cleans as it maps in a controlled zig-zag pattern - it is emptied after each clean. Can be disabled to never run out - Ladder avoidance to prevent falling - Tangle detection. Stops when the cable gets stuck - Good battery life - Looks very nice and technological. I prefer its look and feel to Roomba - Voice prompts with adjustable volume - WiFi enabled - Can be controlled remotely via app (start, stop, schedule) - Visually indicates cleaning areas like Roomba, but there seems to be a bug in the software like it does Draws floor plan - Supports Apple iOS and Android apps - Self-charging (finds its own charging station upon completion) - Mopping function works, but is in its infancy - You fill the robot with cleaning solution in a separate compartment and attach the microfiber part to the mop - Find of the robot via the app - Additional accessories included, like brushes and filters - Setup was easy - Dodging objects seemed better than Roomba - Roomba bumped into things to figure out if something was in the way - - Neabot uses lasers (visible if you use the Point your phone's camera at it) to avoid objects without bumping into anything. Later it is shown in more detail and really bumps into objects. This meant that when I walked in front of the robot, it immediately recognized my presence and found an alternative way to move. CONS - My first Neabot stalled several times during cleaning for various reasons - Sent it back for replacement. The new one had no problem - The cleaning route seems random rather than methodical and predictable like Roomba - It seems to map the room first and THEN clean instead of doing both at the same time - Mopping function was rudimentary - Removed some bits of tile floor but didn't as good as by hand. Honestly, the Roomba Braava mops aren't any better either - voice prompts are too loud at first. I turned the volume down: voice prompts woke us up twice in the middle of the night because an update and reboot was in progress. I told customer service that the robot does NOT need to say anything during the update, especially at night. The side sweeper kept coming loose while Neabot ran through the cables. The software seems to need more work. Customer service said they are always making improvements and that things get better over time. In general, after configuring the robot, everything worked very well. I would like it to be cleared during mapping to save time, but maybe over time the engineers will improve Neabot's programming. I asked my wife: Roomba or Neabot? She liked how quiet the Neabot is, how well it vacuums and picks up light dirt. Me? I prefer Roomba but due to the cheaper price we chose Neabot.
