Review on πŸ“‘ Low-Profile Mirror-Mount Antenna for TRAM 7732 Satellite Radio by David Ross

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better than stock. Probably no.

I just installed a new Kenwood DDX471HD stereo with SiriusXM SXV200V2 tuner in a 2014 F150 truck. The SXV200V2 tuner comes with a small magnetic antenna, but my previous XM radio used a similar small magnetic antenna and didn't leave it on the truck as it went through the car wash. For this setup I wanted an antenna that was more firmly attached and had a low profile so the rotating brushes in the car wash wouldn't rip it. I attached the tram antenna to the inside edge of the driver's side front fender with stainless steel. , NMO style, fender mount. To test the tram antenna, I parked the truck in my garage and positioned the antenna directly under the center of my metal roller door. I still had a signal bar on the Kenwood radio display and didn't lose connection. I then placed the new magnetic antenna that came with the SXV200V2 tuner on the fender next to the tram and connected it to the tuner. Kenwood had no stripes and I had no maintenance. My old magnetic mount antenna also didn't work at all under the garage door. So Tram's performance is better than the standard antenna that came with the tuner and it is much more durable. .The cable on the tram antenna is much thicker than the standard antenna, but it's very flexible, so it wasn't difficult for me to route it through the firewall and dashboard. , I am disappointed that the performance of this antenna is not as good as the original magnetic mount antenna I have used before. I ride a given route quite often, so I know the dead zones where I usually lose XM signal. I was surprised that with this new antenna I have a lot more dead spots than before.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
