I bought this humidifier for my bedroom and was hoping the essential oil bottle would give off a nice mild scent. Let me start with the fact that the tank is big enough to hold water that will last at least 12 hours if you run it at half speed. It really shouldn't be updated as most bedrooms are not large open spaces. I've found this to last until noon the next day if I fill it up around 11-12am when I go to bed. It's perfect, just what I was hoping for. A small bottle of essential oils is a piece of junk. It has a small wick inside the bottle that protrudes from the bottom of the humidifier's base. It had been working for about a week when a plastic part broke and lavender oil spilled all over my room at night. You are actually better off using the Glad plugin or similar if you want your room to smell nice. It's more effort than it's worth and it just doesn't leave much of a odor. As for cleaning. Instructions are vague. Let me just say that I have used humidifiers for most of my adult life because I have many allergies and have used more humidifiers than I could count. This model sounds like clean water runs through the base and the reservoir is good enough to keep mold spores out of your room. That's NOT good enough! I drain both the reservoir and base nightly, rinse well with warm water, and once a week I mix white vinegar and water and apply to where the water contacts. Leave it on for about 20 minutes should be enough. But there are many small spots that the solution doesn't hit or stay long enough to actually clean. The tank has a hole through which the water rises to the outlet. Spout. This is a danger zone as it turned pink within a week. There is no way to eliminate this without bleach. I pour some bleach through the hole and use a vinegar/water solution all over and after 20 minutes the pink spores are gone and the rest of the humidifier is clean. Be careful. The pink color is needed mold about once a month that come into contact with water. Otherwise, vinegar/water is good enough. Make sure you drain stale water and rinse thoroughly every day. If you breathe mold, you will get sick. So keep your humidifiers clean! Overall, this is a good humidifier for the price. You'll either have to ditch the essential oil bottle or make it work MUCH better than it does now. I would probably buy it again but, honestly, what I dream of Jeanie just gets old and the little mold traps are dangerous. It could use some design updates and some much better cleaning instructions, especially for people who have kids and have never used a humidifier before. grow, and the bottle of essential oils is garbage.
