Review on Aqueon MiniBow Aquarium Starter Lighting by Courtney Wang

Made the old man Betta very happy, now he has a spring kick

2 weeks in: Great pool. Eventually my rooster, Old Man Bukke, got a new house to move into from his pan and he was very excited, when he walked in he immediately perked up. What impressed me the most was his silence, you can only hear it if you listen to him consciously. Size 2.5 is very good, big enough to make Buckuke very happy and move freely and small enough to sit perfectly in the corner of our living room. It also has plenty of room for a heater (I bought a 'Tetra HT aquarium immersion heater with electronic thermostat' which has done its job well for the past 2 weeks) which sure is part of what the old man does makes so happy. I got a white tank and bought a divider as the reviews said the filter damaged their fish fins and hearing horror stories about heaters burning fish but the old man got really hyper after the move so he jumped over the Fence when I found him next day was swimming curiously around the filter, after inspection he had no damage and liked to hide under the filter so after many unsuccessful attempts to keep him on the other side of the baffle (Guys I still don't know how he's done, that Houdini or Jackie Chan), I removed the separator. He likes to play in the filter stream, but he's a bit old and a bit blind, so the filter catches the feed faster than he can eat, but the "chicken feeding ring" fixed that by holding his feed well . The white tank is very pretty and a lot of fun to watch swim and the filter does a great job of keeping the water clean and clear. Update (2 years later): I would definitely buy again and recommend! Update, because while the filter was very quiet for humans, after a while I noticed the Old Man was "surfing" on the glass and jerkily swimming around. After some research I found out that filter noise can stress the fish and cause this behavior. So I regularly left the filter off and turned it on from time to time to clean the aquarium while observing the behavior of the fish. Old Man B has since died (RIP) but I hope he has had a happy life the past few years after educating myself and finding him a comfortable home and now our new rooster is enjoying the aquarium.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
