Review on Large Breed Locking Pet Door by Alexandra Griego

Unreasonably difficult to install, poor fit and finish compared to other pet doors

The installation of the product is significantly more difficult, troublesome and time-consuming than other pet doors I have installed due to the obviously careless and ill-considered design. As a car mechanic after an accident, I'm very used to working with my hands. I am constantly involved in countless do-it-yourself home improvement and renovation projects, many of which are mostly left to the professionals. I've installed at least two other pet doors that I can remember and this one was by far the worst! The template that came with the instructions was clearly intended for a much smaller pet door, so I had to figure out what size hole to cut for myself (not very difficult, but time consuming and mistakes can be hard to fix). Only one set of screws was included, and they were too short to reach my 1 1/2 inch thick door, so I had no choice but to go to the hardware store to buy longer screws. I live alone so I was forced to leave my house unattended as I couldn't close the huge hole in my door. A cheap, crappy, thin, flexible plastic filler panel is used to fill gaps in all but solid wood doors, and even those that are realistic, unless the installer wants to carefully smooth the edges of the opening after cutting and cross out (better hope you measure and cut). perfect). These panels had to be cut more carefully as they were wide enough to fit a much thicker door than mine, although the kit did not include screws for such a door. Inserting four individual flexible plastic sheets into the narrow slots they fit into while holding the two halves of the pet door in place and trying to align the screw holes, inserting the screws and tightening the nuts that go into the holes is ridiculously difficult. It takes about three to four pairs of skilled hands to get the job done. Other pet doors I've installed in the past are simply two halves that slide together, with a telescoping design that allows for easy installation and a much better fit and finish. I highly recommend this style. This one might be a little cheaper, but after all the frustration and time spent customizing and finalizing it, it's still very unsatisfying.
