I always checked the chain tension with a ruler. dipstick. call it what you want. The problem is that chains stretch by millimeters and aligning the edge of the chain pin with the mark on the ruler is quite inaccurate. Because of the stretching, it's easy to make a mistake that can damage the shifter or wear out the gears and sprockets. Rig and takes the guesswork out of determining if a chain is stretched. Fast (done in 15 seconds or less), accurate and very easy to use. I think this tool should be in every serious motorcyclist's toolbox. Stretching a chain can quickly turn a mature bike into an old bike, and it's a subtle change. I feel better, I can easily and quickly check my bike chains in a few seconds. It's hard to get that much fun and confidence out of $10 these days.
