I have this light in my 10g betta tank and a cheap timer to run it, it works very well with plants I had to change the timer Cut off the cycle from 8 hours to 6 to combat a small outbreak of algae on my floating plant roots, but that involves buying a new lamp to figure out the best cycle. I have no complaints about the light, it splashes a bit with my sponge filter, continues to work and cleans very well, appears to be made of quality metal and has a good light blocking coating, I use microfiber and a vinegar and water mixture to clean.
