I don't usually use poles for hiking, but I was advised to take them with me on my recent trip to Peru. What attracted me to it is that it folds and folds into a very small package. Everyone else in our group worried from time to time about their poles sticking out of backpacks or accidentally leaving them somewhere while mine fit easily in my backpack. It stands approximately 14 inches tall when placed in its cozy pouch. Just a word of warning, I'm 5ft 2" and I think if I was a lot shorter the shortest version of this stick might be a bit longer for me. Also, I think it might not be heavy enough for some people, but it has held up well when I've toured archeological sites etc and I appreciated its light weight (I haven't done any serious hiking). came with an extra rubber tip which was good as places like Machu Picchu don't allow you to have a sharp stick end.
