Review on Get Creative With Klutz Mini Eraser Sweets Craft Kit - Make Your Own Sweet Treats! by Steven Darkshnar

Highly Problematic.

TL:DR? These kits are cute, but they can be very frustrating to younger children, take hours to make, and have a tendency to melt in the oven (or at least we’ve run into that problem which has NOT been good). The Art Kit:Food themed and kawaii styled, this comes with an instruction booklet featuring 15 different designs, a sculpting tool, plastic eyes (heat resistant/didn’t melt for us), four colors of eraser clay, and a display. Pages/projects feature a sizing guide for clay amounts and the clay must be needed before use. After sculpting, the erasers are then baked and can be used to erase pencil (they actually work). The Actual Crafting:We’ve had some really bad luck with these. It says ages 8 and up, but it can take hours (3 or 4) to make all the projects and that just burns anyone out. I don’t recommend this for a single kid, maybe two or three kids who get to do different projects and have they’re own 4 or 5 erasers to keep. Secondly, the clay in these kits tends to not want to stay stuck together. You may need to use the tip of the sculpting tool to mash them together, but this can leave obvious tool marks. There’s actually evidence in another booklet by the same company of super glue used in the photos, so that just shows you on the stickiness of the clay and how easily it can fall apart. Don’t expect it to come out exactly like what’s photographed. If you have a perfectionist child, this may not be a good project for them. Additionally, you may run out of clay. We’ve discovered some sizing chart problems (with another kit), so expect to make the clay balls a little smaller than recommend so you can make all 15 in the color scheme they call for. Our biggest problem is the melting in the oven. The oven was set at the right temperature. We even baked it for less time, but that still didn’t change the fact they came out melted. It looked hideous and was pretty horrific after all those hours of hard work. These were projects for a kid to feel good about herself and find confidence in her talents. I don’t think she’s ever going to touch one of these again…or clay for that matter. This made a bad day worse.+Pros:+Food themed, kawaii style projects+All tools required for creating (including eyes)+Actually erases fine pencil (but not something thicker or hardhanded)-Cons:-Melted in the oven (was baked at the right temperature and less time, so I have no clue why this happened…)-Takes several hours to make (which makes the melting part a super low blow)-Sizing problems with required clay in the booklet (make the clay balls a little smaller else you’ll run out before you can do all the projects)-Not really for younger children (frustrating and difficult to do)-Too much work for a single child in a single session (coming back to it is really not practical either; best for one kit split between two or three children that each get a couple of erasers each; fun for a party)-Clay doesn’t like to stick together (which can really ruin some hard work; there’s evidence of superglue in some of the pictures by this company which just shows you how fragile and falling apart these can be)Overall, this seems like such a great concept, but it just was one hot mess that led to hot tears, and even lower ego/sense of self-worth, and decreases chances of every trying something new or with clay again. 2 out of 5 stars. Maybe we'll have some better luck with another set/craft.
