Update: This destroyed my cargo box

UPDATE: DO NOT BUY! This thing DESTROYED my cargo box with its poor quality straps. While my car was out of the garage, the seat belts came undone and my expensive cargo box fell onto the garage's concrete floor, collapsing in the back. Now there's a big hole in my cargo box, making it pretty much useless if I'm ever expecting anything. rain.Old review below, which means absolutely nothing now: I have a pro version. I wanted to hang my cargo box above my garage door, so I needed something that could place the box as close to the ceiling as possible. After reading some reviews that said a minimum of 8-12 inches from the ceiling when fully raised and measuring my own a few times, I decided to take a chance with this lift over the Thule Multi Lift, which is five times more expensive than Thule Multilift. That. My first problem was that my beams ran perpendicular to the desired orientation. Needing every inch I could get, I decided to install on two separate joists, driving one screw directly into the joist on each bracket, and screwing the other into the drywall with dowels. Looked strong enough. And I managed to get the box high enough not to hit the garage door as it opens and closes. In general, they coped with the task. Also, the wooden block trick another reviewer posted to keep the straps from deforming the edge of the cargo box was a great solution. The biggest drawback is the locking roller. The weight of the item being stowed makes the lock snap, which is good in that the lock is unlikely to slip and your gear fall onto the car or the ground. But the instructions require you to pull the lock straight down to unlock it, which is quite difficult when you have a wide box. You have to pull sideways and down somehow, and the rope ends up rubbing against the locking mechanism instead of moving freely. This, and over time, makes me wonder how that angular tension can affect the pulleys and lock. For $40 it's hard to expect more, but I'd happily pay $60 for a version with 4 pulleys installed instead of 2 like this.
