It's more than practical, it's safer than an orange cane or stiletto.
I hit this tool with a needle while piercing some kind of quilt. I cut off the end but my sewing machine wasn't damaged! I changed the needle. I was so glad I used this instead of the popsicle stick I use when I lose it. Now I always have two on hand.
