Wanted to return the joy of installation with these 'tool free' blocks. I installed 10 of these cables in my home network wiring and found the initial installation to be fairly easy until it came time to test the termination. 9 out of 10 deals failed with at least one issue. After some changes during the installation process, 10 out of 10 devices are now working properly. Here's what I did: 1) Don't rely on the metal frame to provide the clamping force to "push" the cables through. I used a small metal rod and hammer and tapped all 4 corners of the plastic wire holder right into the socket block. (There were no loose connections at any of the connectors after this.) Then close the metal frame until it snaps into place. 2) ALL of my connection problems were caused by cut wires grounding the metal frame! This was after pruning them back as much as possible. Solution? A small strip of black electrical tape on either side between the ends of the wires and the metal frame (before you bond the metal frames together). Works perfectly. After applying both solutions, these connectors work fine. If the above sounds too cumbersome then look elsewhere otherwise they are fine for the unit price.
