These are two different LED sections housed in a flexible, transparent, rectangular housing. Half bright white, the other half red. The red part flashes for a few seconds when the device is turned on, then toggles forward and backward until the device is turned on and off again. It is intended to be connected to the interior lighting, so that when the door is opened, the LED lights up. It illuminates the floor and really makes your door stand out. The pipe is about 1/4" thick and 1/2" wide, which is why there needs to be such a large gap between the door and the body. Installation: You need to clean the mounting area very, very well. In addition, it must be rust-free. I used soapy water and a brush to clean the area, then clean water to get rid of the soap, then the alcohol wipes that came with it. If possible I would connect the power first so you can position the strip with the lights on, also it heats them up and makes them more flexible. Also, test the strips prior to installation. The kit contains a plastic tool for opening the door panel and the lighting. The ends of the wires are preinstalled with pins that can be connected to many connectors. I had to cut and glue - no big deal. If you're handy, this will be an easy setup. You spend as much time cleaning as you do installing.
