Great for soaking and didn't damage my shoes when cleaning with a toothbrush. When it came to washing my clothes it was decent, clothes smelled great. Although I think it matters. For really dirty clothes I recommend soaking the clothes as a simple wash doesn't do as much as I was hoping. My friend does gardening and tree care and washing his clothes without soaking still leaves the smell of oil in his clothes (which is why I bought this).
