Using USB-C for Surface is a bit tricky - you need to make sure your power adapter is producing the minimum voltage and current (and therefore power). I did this from two different sources and this cable didn't work. I bought another cable and it worked fine every time. Where the cable meets the Surface Connection port, something appears to be disconnected. My port may have been a little worn, but that doesn't explain why the Microsoft charger worked well, as did the other Surface Connect adapter with my USB-C charger. However, there was no problem sending the product back for a full refund, including shipping both ways.
