There are no silicone retainers, but the elastic at the hem is thick enough to keep the shorts in place without the saddle slipping. They are good for short trips (less than 10 miles) as they are; For something longer, you need a different layer or a softer bike saddle. I liked the first pair I bought so much that I bought a second and may buy a third. The shorts are a real price tag that represents great value for money. Complete with features I would expect from shorts that cost twice as much.
