Ideal for small toys and coins. I toss in coins and let my son choose a random prize ball from a large container when he does something good. You will hold quite a lot of coins. I was even able to put gold dollar coins in it, as well as a few other dimes and nickels. Sometimes my 8 year old can find them a bit difficult to open, but I've never had a problem removing the lids. I agree that they are a bit difficult to open because I really don't want the tips to pop out too easily as he moves his hand around the container trying to pick one and random coin at the bottom of the container. For the price they were perfect for my needs.
