I bought this case for the new iPhone 11Pro Max because the Otterbox's were not yet available. I have an Otterbox Commuter on my iPhone XS Max and love it, but the Otterbox can be a bit bulky.The Commuter is a two-piece case. An interior silicon case covered by a more rigid plastic case. The Otterbox has always worked for me.I also like on the Otterbox that the edges are a decent amount taller than the installed phone, even if the phone has a protective glass screen. I'd guess the case is 1/32" taller, affording you some protection for the screen if it drops flat. I'd guess the Defense Shield is only about 1/64" taller than a phone with a glass screen protector.This Defense Shield case has a nice, rigid metal (aluminum) frame, something Otterbox doesn't have. The metal is the colored part of the case. On the top of the metal frame, on the top edge (phone screen side), is rubber for drop or banging protection. the corners are slightly thicker. the back of the case is clear plastic, so if you have a colored phone, it'll show through. The Commuter has a cutout where the Apple is at and, in my experience, this does allow dust to get into the case. I think the Defense Shield is tight enough that dust will not get into the case.Speaking of how tight the Defense Shield is, it comes with no installation instructions. It is difficult to get the phone into the case. After trying it, I recommend putting the top of the phone in first and pushing it gradually to the bottom. It is far easier to get your phone installed into the Commuter.I was concerned that I would not be able to use wireless charging due to the metal. This is not the case because the back is clear plastic. The phone charges just fine wirelessly (Qi).Hope this helps. I'll update as necessary.
