No frills professional tripod

The box says it's aluminum, but if you lift the box you're sure it's steel. Perhaps the fact that I'm in the process of building my light rings, which are known for being ultra-light, makes me feel like this stand is essential. Feet touch the floor with durable rubber feet so they don't slide on the floor. Okay, so the legs are aluminum, but aluminum is thick, and if you realize every extension matters, yes, all three are on each leg. There's a bubble at the base that's easy to see to make sure you're shooting and the layers are all on the same plane. This is the only stand I've seen and I've had many different levels of quality over the years, but this one actually has a solid handle on the center tube for ease of carrying. are needed, but beyond that the center tube has good extension range in case you level the entire stand and then find you need a little more height. It's like playing a guitar with separate volume controls, and then the master control locks the mix and cranks it all up. This is all unique in that you can take the center post and slide it all the way out of the base post. It becomes a solid monopoly. There is a cargo gravity hook at the base of the B-pillar. This allows you to attach a heavier load at the bottom to avoid tipping over. If you're parking an expensive camera, this is the stand you need. This allows you to make all your adjustments and transport the tripod to its destination, and then once it's set up you can attach a weight heavy enough to add that all-important extra layer of security. One of the top legs has a comfortable sponge grip. It's a way of adding softness and warmth to a cold metal handle. The strength and weight of this stand prompted me to add extensions so I can park a variety of gear knowing it's in good hands.

Pros
  • Easy to maneuver and lightweight
Cons
  • No power
