I installed them in the back of my 95 YJ roll bar. They fit and work well. The velcro is wide and the grips are quite soft. My daughters use them to aid in getting in and out and sometimes through the hump between the rear seats. I also wear a bikini top all summer long and it's open and weatherproof, I can't imagine anyone breaking it. I can only surmise that some of these were installed in a jeep that rises above its 'normal' height, forcing owners to jump onto one of them and cling to it to mount their beast. Long live the Jeep!
