Review on Bafang BBSHD BBS02B Ebike Motor Conversion Kit with LCD Speedmeter Display - Powerful Electric Bike Motor Kit by Nathaniel Collins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well and seems pretty strong!

Installation went well but was not without problems. I would give 5 stars if there were more detailed instructions. Also, some cables had to be much longer, especially the battery cable. The wire gauge seems a bit small to me, but I haven't had any problems so far. Assuming you can remove your old crank and bottom bracket, installation was pretty easy. The supplied screws appear to be of fairly poor quality and seemed to come loose very easily, so don't pile them up when installing like you did with the removed screws. Hopefully they won't break under heavy use. The motor itself is quite heavy and looks well built. The brake levers feel good. I only used the front as I keep my gear in the back. I can only use 7 gears out of 8 that I have, I assume this is due to the sprocket placement. But it doesn't matter. I built a 13s5p battery using Panasonic NCR18650PF batteries (14.5Ah) and ran it for about one assist level 1 per 10km over small hills and mostly flat areas and the battery was drained by about 95Wh. I tested the level 5 help and it works pretty fast. You don't have to pedal at all. I'm 6ft 2" and 285lbs and during this test I was towing a 50lb bike trailer and didn't feel I needed to use more than Assist 1. I averaged about 10-15 km/h before turning the engine on and off. tested the maximum engine speed with no load on the lift and on my last ride it reached almost 60 km/h (on the speedometer). On an empty stomach I drove about 25 km/h. set to. Time will tell if the quality will hold up. But I think the mid-drive is worth the money for in-wheel motors.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Some flaws
