BYOB - Bring Your Own Balls

Gemma Joy's ball pit is pretty good, but you'll need to add a lot more balls to make it fun. This kit comes in a box with 3 components. First, the fabric ball pit folds tightly when not in use. But when you unfold it, the side panels are a little stiff, like there's a piece of cardboard sewn into each side panel. However, the bottom of the pit is all fabric, so it's not rigid and doesn't offer cushioning. Second, there are foam sheets that you put together like a jigsaw puzzle to create a softer base for the ball pit. The instructions aren't great, but after looking at them for a minute or two it's pretty easy to see how to put the puzzle together. You start by assembling a 2x2 square, then add the curved pieces (which have both regular and irregular orientations), and finally add the "corner" pieces to create a complete circle of foam that goes into the ball pit fits. The third component is 100 plastic balls. All the balls I received were in good condition (not crushed) and come in two colors - clear and golden brown. It takes less than 10 minutes to put everything together and add the balls, and after you've done it once or twice it's less than 5 minutes. The ball pit is designed for one or two children aged 1 to 5 years. The older and bigger the children get, the faster it gets crowded and you run the risk of colliding with the children. You must measure the effectiveness and durability of this ball pit by your children's age, size, and general "restlessness." So why 4 stars and not 5? Well, it's two things. Selling it as some kind of ball starter kit doesn't quite work. If you drop 100 balls there, they will only cover 40-50% of the bottom of the pit. Check out the attached image to see what it looks like. I think you need at least 200 balls here, but honestly if you really want it to be what you think of when you think of a ball pit, you need 400-600 balls. I added 300 extra balls (400 total) and that's not bad now, but I'd probably add another 100 balls if I saw them on sale. So keep that in mind when you buy this ball pit. You have to pay for extra balls to make it fun. There is also a handy storage bag for the folded fabric ball pit, but no reusable mesh bag to store the included 100 balls. If you buy a pack of 100 balls, they almost always come with a zip-lock mesh bag. A piece of crap that wasn't included here. All in all this is a good fabric ball pit with a good foam backing. It's better quality than cheap balloons, that's for sure. But you need to add $30-$50 extra balls for this ball pit to reach its full potential.
