The width comes in handy when you want to buy wide butters (like Kerrygold etc) or comfortably fits two traditional sticks. If you turn the tub over, you can use a wooden cutting board to serve the butter, and a knife is a nice and efficient way to cut the butter. The cutting board also has a rubber strip that allows it to stand securely when stored. Cleaning is a little tricky when the oil sticks to the walls of the tub, but that doesn't bother. In general we are very satisfied, it looks great! We've got it in red for a nice pop of color when paired with a cheeseboard or breakfast table setting.
