1 of 2 number plate lights went out on my 2003 Corolla so I upgraded both to these LEDs. Using 2 provided even lighting across the bowl but less power than my old incandescent bulb. I had to rotate 1 lightbulb 180 degrees to make it work. Ideally, this means getting rid of the felt panel in the trunk by removing a couple of reusable pads. Then unscrew the bulb socket and hang it on the wires so that the bulbs are visible when the parking lights are on. Since 1 of the 2 license plate lights were off and both were visible, you can run the positive and negative controls at the same time. For my part, I threw away the bad bulb and treated the good bulb carefully so as not to stain the sebum on the bulb; It was saved for later use in interior lighting. After replacing both plate lamps, perform the same test to determine if you need to realign either lamp. Once both bulbs are working you can put the bracket back in place, do an additional check, replace the felt pad/eyelets and then check again. It's pretty easy to install overall, but a jack removal tool instead of a standard screwdriver makes it quicker.
