Right out of the box the parts are fragile and flexible, they're so thin. The sides attach to the bottom and to each other, but since all the pieces are very thin I had to start by holding the bottom piece perpendicular to the ground and pressing the first side up. Then I rotated the bottom piece to push the next side up and so on. Once assembled, the box is strong enough to sit on, but the hinges and front latch of the lid are very flimsy, requiring care when opening and closing the lid. I chose this 30 gallon box for our small porch because I needed to store a bulky lounge chair cushion in addition to two chair cushions. On our deck we have a much larger storage box made by a competitor. This box is made of much thicker plastic and has strong hinges and edges. We've had this deck box for six years now and it's holding up well. I'd recommend buying a 22-gallon box from this competitor if you only need to store a couple of chair cushions.
