I bought this for my beloved wife and her daughter because I have very short hair and it will not do me any good. My hair is quite long and I've only used smaller strands. I was able to use bigger strands for my daughter's shorter hair. It will only tangle or pull slightly if the section is too thick, but it will stop automatically. My hair doesn't usually hold a curl well, but this one did the trick and even lasted the next day.
