I thought for a long time whether I should give 3 or 4. The color is wonderful and the stand is very easy to assemble. Each tray fits perfectly in the stand and is durable with or without trays. For the price they are well made. While folding the trays is a little tricky, they don't fold easily due to the way the legs fit together. The wood is very soft. If you have written on it, you should definitely place a protective object between the page and the shelf, otherwise you will see writing indentations in the shelf. The surface of the tray has no protective coating. I was drawing with pastels, there was a stain on my hand, I put my hand on the tray and now it won't wash off. It has become permanent. I sprayed the other trays with clear coat from the hardware store to make sure this doesn't happen to any other tray. If you need a work surface or a place to set up these are perfect. All of them are smooth and strong enough.
