I'm a mechanical engineer. I looked at a few devices online. The quality of the device was good for the price and the instructions were easy to read and follow. I liked one of the reviews here stating that this top notch sharpens, not sharpens. That explained a lot about what was going on with these grinders compared to the more expensive ones. I think it's worth noting that you can sharpen so many times before wearing out the blade (while honing can be done much more often) and that honing doesn't work on a serrated blade. Anyway - I've tried it on some short blade pruning shears and some expensive sewing shears. The wife is very satisfied with both results and describes them as "much better". Anecdotes at best, but when she's happy, I'm happy.
