We originally received this soundbar hoping we could improve the sound of our 55" TCL Smart TV with HDMI Audio Return Channel (ARC). It worked with my stereo receiver, but we wanted an easier, self-contained setup when we put the TV on a rolling stand. to my Yamaha receiver but no sound. I've tried two different cables, HDMI 1.4 and 2.0, to no avail. I was able to connect it via the optical jack and then I noticed that the sound from this speaker wasn't well balanced. It has seven chest EQ modes, six of which are too tinny (and inferior to TV speakers) and one is almost entirely bass. The only way to improve the TV sound alone was to use both. simultaneously on this bass equalizer setting (EQ3) to get a little more bass response. I also tried it via Bluetooth to confirm my suspicions about the sound quality. Using EQ setting 5 was the best, but still noticeably muted and not very powerful; Again, I have portable Bluetooth speakers that sound better, have more volume, and are half the size. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. For $100, I expected something that at least sounded better than a $50 portable speaker; In addition, the remote control is thin and cheap. I'm not even rating it based on the HDMI ARC issues as they might be TV related, but purely based on the unassuming sound and remote control. If it were $30 it could compete with other soundbars of the same size, but I still wouldn't choose it.
