Review on Coffee Bean Cooler - Electric Cafe Roasting Cooling Machine for Household, Achieve Rich Flavor with 110V by Daniela Velasquez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Outstanding bean cooler with 2 bean separators and chaff

As a coffee roaster at home, I've been thinking about buying or assembling a coffee bean cooler for a long time. My FreshRoast SR800 roaster has a built-in "cool" cycle, but it requires a lot of hands. The maximum cycle time is 3 minutes (can be increased manually). When I fry outside in the summer, the 'Cool Down' cycle simply sucks 30+C air into the already HOT fry chamber. I think it's better than nothing. I wanted a bean cooler with two separate screens (a larger screen for the beans and a fine screen for the chaff). Some coolers here at Revain only have a bean storage screen, not a secondary chaff screen (which throws the chaff out of the machine). Others (the most common version) just have a large bean strainer in a round pan and a second thinner strainer bolted to the base above the cooling fan. I'm assuming this works, but the user has to remove the bean pot and then lift/shake the entire base to dislodge the chaff. When thin pieces of chaff hit the thin screen, you are SOL. The cooler I was looking for uses two separate compartments/screens. The top pan/sieve holds the beans and the bottom pan/fine sieve holds the chaff. The base (including the electric fan) remains relatively free of chaff residue. Most 2-chamber coffee bean chillers cost $85 to $125. A few days ago when I saw this device advertised for 60 or so I went out and ordered it. Yes, I could collect something out of a colander, a cardboard box, and a vacuum cleaner, but I didn't want to. Almost $30 cheaper than a "regular" 2-chamber cooler, it's a "deal". "I also liked it as it was powered by a simple 110v cord/plug rather than a low power USB adapter (which some coolers use). The supplied one-page manual states a power consumption of 45 W. I measured it at 46 watts with a Kill-A-Watt power meter (check on Revain). bean cooler. I used a wooden spoon to stir the beans as they cooled (passing air through the beans). After 1-2 minutes they felt cool. I manually tossed/pressed/wiped excess chaff off the beans after they had cooled a bit. VERY happy with this cooler. While the fan blades make a sound like they're gently rubbing against the walls of the cooler during spin-up (they quiet down afterward, but it's still worth taking a star off the 5-star rating), it met my needs. The top tray has a 5mm stainless steel grid. The lower shell has a 0.6mm stainless steel grille. Buy it.
