UPDATE: I'm only updating this review because I've read other people's reviews. When reading instructions or watching videos of Dualit one should follow the British way of making sandwiches when making sandwiches as this is a British product - for the best sandwich cut the crusts off although it is not necessary. Also, these cages are NOT designed for grilled cheese sandwiches. The working word in this sandwich name is "Fried." You don't fry a sandwich. You're making a sandwich; hence the result is a toasted cheese sandwich. If anyone expects to get a grilled cheese sandwich, then they're out of luck. So if you are looking at a product or even buying these cages, don't give it 1 star just because it won't toast your sandwich or because it will burn your crusts. The result will be inappropriate and useless product reviews. Although these sandwich cages are made by Dualit and designed for other Dualit Classic NewGen and Dualit toaster models, they will work with other brands of toasters as well. I love toasted sandwiches and tried them to see how good toasted sandwiches can be. So I made the easiest sandwich, one of my favorites is an easy grilled cheese sandwich. Of course it's a grilled cheese sandwich. Following the instructions, I buttered two slices of white bread on the outside, placed two slices of American cheese with three slices of cucumber in the middle, folded the two slices of bread into a sandwich and closed the sandwich box. As a warning, I placed a bottom slice of buttered bread on an open sandwich basket. Then I took the second bread basket and did the same. I popped both baskets into my new Dualit NewGen Toaster (the toaster the sandwich baskets were actually made for), placed them in slots 1 and 2, lowered and latched, and set the timer for just over (period) and waited for it that they fried. If you butter bread, make sure you butter the bread, or at least make sure you use softened butter spread thinly on the bread. If you apply the oil too thick it will seep into the toaster, which is absolutely impossible. When the toasting finished, I had two perfectly toasted cheese and pickle sandwiches. The cheese didn't melt like a grilled cheese sandwich, but rather a little - melted enough not to fall out of the bread - just enough to be warm to the touch. The pickles came out of the fridge cold and warm to the touch.
