Review on ๐Ÿ”ญ Celestron 93522 Dual Axis Motor Drive: Advanced CG4 Astrophotography Enhancer by Athenasby Whitney

It works but doesn't polish

The good things first:* It keeps the stars mostly stationary (it works).* Relatively cheap. Everything Else:* The biggest problem is that it replaces the RA fine tune knob. You cannot use the fine tuning knob and the motor at the same time. It would be nice if the pan controls moved at an acceptable speed, but they don't - they move exceptionally slowly, even at 8x zoom. My scope is probably a bit heavy; If it wasn't well balanced the motors wouldn't be able to turn it at all.* The Dec motor includes a clutch so you can just turn the thumbscrew and the knob will work again. Not perfect, but better than RA.* The connection doesn't look professional at all, it's a jack on exposed circuit boards. Direct current is harmless, but it doesn't look good. I think you use it in the dark so it's ok - it just looks fragile. There is no voltage protection. * A strap or something similar can be used for the controller so you can hang it somewhere. All in all it works and it's (much) cheaper than buying a really good mount. Don't expect shutter speeds longer than 10 seconds when using this with a camera.
