The 4ft version goes well with my acrylic tank but sits better on a glass tank.
I am happy with the size of this light and am using it for the 4 foot aquarium you see at fish stores. My tank is acrylic so it doesn't have vertical edges like a glass tank. It has an acrylic panel with holes cut in the top to provide more strength. The light just sits on top of this acrylic top panel. It has nothing to elevate it above the aquarium. It doesn't give me any issues with heat or anything, but I would have preferred it to sit a bit higher. If you have a splash filter I have a feeling it stays wet. The light has settings where it turns on and off automatically. It offers 3 different timers. At 12pm this has caused an algal bloom in my aquarium so I would say there is enough light.
