I thought I would have problems with the canopy being too heavy for my tree, but it is actually very light. What I like about this cylinder is that I thought the lights were pointing straight at the ceiling and that's it. However, as soon as I plug it in, the lights on top move. Rotation sets the snowflakes in motion. The cord that comes with this topper is quite long, but since I don't have a pre-lighted tree I was able to just plug it into my lights surrounding my tree and then when I'm ready to turn them on, they glow. As you can see from the photos I had the lamp on but it was on the other side of the room. However, when this lamp is on, you can still clearly see the light on my ceiling. Even when the lamp next to my tree is on, you can still see the lights. Not great as the lamp will shine next to the tree but you can still see it. The best thing about this treetop, besides the light, is that it is not that heavy. So if you touch the tree, I don't have to worry about the tip tipping or falling off.
