I've had a few other smartwatches before and they've been a bit disappointing. I see the benefit of having them, but I really had to look at what I wanted/needed in a smartwatch. This fossil found just the right boxes for what I was looking for. Mind you, I've only had it for a little over a week, but so far it's meeting my needs and looking attractive on my wrist (this is a personal opinion, but I've received compliments). I'm not an avid athlete, but I try to train every day. Google's fit combined with this watch's capabilities provide reasonable indicators of my activity. Someone who does more exercise might want more, or as I've found the watch offers all the basic features. Setting up and syncing with my Samsung Note 9 was hassle free and pairing has worked quite well so far. I've been able to download all the apps I'm interested in and so far they're working well. I've also found a watchface that suits my needs very well (Essential Digital) and it provides all the information I want, either on the watchface itself or via hotlinks on the watchface. I don't mind the multi-day battery life that much (if so, look elsewhere) as I'm pretty happy with leaving it charged overnight. It works all day (mine is 7am to midnight) and I usually have about 30% charge left when I put it on the charger. Overall price, performance, functionality and reliability was the perfect combination of what I was looking for.
