Astro Pneumatic ADN14 Compressor with Rivets and Nuts - Quality at a price

For a machinist, quality tools not only work well, they feel good in the hand when they are the right weight. fit and done. However, what really counts is how well the tool performs, and this Astro Pneumatic ADN14 Rivet Nut Driver is top notch. For what it does, grab a rivet nut and press the threaded end against the flanged end, the Astro beats even my obsession with the best budget tool. Instead of using an improvised rivet nut compression method like a nut, bolt, and washer, I decided to use a tool. It's always nice to have a good reason to buy a new tool, right? I am new to rivet nut installation although the process is quite simple and with so many tools on the market with varying reviews it has been difficult for me to choose the 'right' good value tool. So if you are interested in installing rivet nuts, you must first decide whether the compression method is manual (pliers) or mechanical (drill, like this model ADN14). My priority was to have a tool small enough that clearance to install the rivet nut was not an issue. This was of paramount importance as many applications take place in tight, restricted areas that preclude squeezing the handles with pliers. Because of the dimensions, I decided on a model with a drill drive. When selecting pliers/drills, it is important to consider whether the user can "feel" the torque or have a suitable drill sleeve to control the compression in order to "set" the rivet properly. I use a Milwaukee 12V 1/2" drill (my EDC) although the Milwaukee clutch doesn't hold torque until it's fully compressed but in drill mode that little torque can stretch your wrist so the problem was that Learning to "feel" and know when to let off the trigger. After a few sets of tests, I was able to safely install the 1/4-20 steel rivet nuts. My first project was the nuts in our Discovery's engine door. 20 stainless steel pan head screws approx .3/4" marine grade hardwood plywood on 1/8" AL corner brackets. Putting 16 screws (think Airstream rivets) over oak floors replaces carpet (fu). I'm not sure but I believe that a pliers provides a consistent, secure grip with little operator feel, but again you lose limited applications So if you're good with your hands and ho If you want a professional, commercial quality rivet wrench t, the ADN14 should more than meet your needs. I was impressed with the entire kit - a wide range of SAE and metric dies, a tension wrench - all housed in a sturdy carrying case. The set is compact, has the right weight, fit and finish, feels good in the hand and screams quality. Price-performance ratio. I have also been using the Astro 3018 digital tire inflator for a number of years and am very impressed as well. Astro Pneumatic tools are dormant and I'm very glad I found them. I will look for more of their tools.
