Review on πŸ”’ WDG08 Maclocks Security Bracket with Wedge Cable Lock for DELL Tablets and Alienware Notebooks by Flavio Iyer

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Okay I got it working. But I still hate it.

I bought this for a Dell Inspiron 11 "3000 Series 2-in-1" with "Reg Model" P20T (below). I bought it to use as a road computer and was surprised (when I was abroad) that the security cable I brought with me didn't fit in the security lock slot! Dell came up with a proprietary narrower slot, so you'll have to buy a branded cable! THANK YOU DEL! Of course, I called Dell first about the cable, but after spending the better part of an hour explaining what I needed to two different employees with poor English skills, I gave in and bought it from Revain for five dollars. at Dell's price, which was still a whopping 25% of the cost of a computer. If you buy it anyway (see #1 below), please note that there is no key cylinder here; You simply insert the key all the way in to unlock it. Don't use the key to lock, just press the switch until it clicks. (I had to find this out because their image-only instructions are inadequate.) I hate this because: 1) There's no real reason Dell couldn't use the standard Kensington security port, other than to increase its flow income. I don't like being blackmailed into paying too much for something. 2) It's too complicated with too much detail, including buttons instead of a combo wheel. 3) The price is exorbitant. I paid to get it over with and ready for the trip ahead, but now that I see how cheap and flimsy it is I can rate it as exceptionally poor. I expect manufacturers or Dell minions to disagree with this assessment. Now I'm sending this junk back (what a hassle).

Pros
  • Security locks
Cons
  • So far so good
