This is my first sharpening stone. and the biggest revelation (even after watching how-to videos and reading on the subject) was how long it takes to get the job done right. The most important lesson I learned is to take your time! Take your time, do not exert excessive pressure, turn sideways frequently. and in 20 minutes you will have a razor sharp knife. I actually ended up with sharper knives coming back from a professional sharpening service.
