Review on πŸ“» Enhanced BAOFENG UV-82 VHF UHF FM Dual Band Transceiver Two Way Radio by Matt Heringer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The radio has a larger form factor and is VERY comfortable in the hand

This is my 3rd Baofeng radio purchase in 1 year. I currently have UV-5R, UV-5R5 and now UV-82. The differences between them are big when you look at UV-82. The radio has a larger form factor and is VERY comfortable to hold. The antenna works better than most standard ducks. The screen and buttons are the same as the UV-5R and there isn't much of a difference in the menu system other than advanced settings. The TX/RX are great - I'm getting much better RX than my UV-5R and the receiver seems a bit more sensitive. The TX works with all repeaters around me, even in my house with a standard antenna, and works even better with the magnetic mount in my car. This radio uses an almost standard SMA jack and there are many options for additional antennas. The battery life is in most cases comparable to the UV-5R, however the transmission power depends on the time you get from the electricity. This radio has an output of 5 watts and is adjustable. If you are looking for a scanner go elsewhere, this radio does about 8 channels per second. It's just not quick enough to discover new traffic and channels if you don't know what they are. If you have 12 channels programmed to use the scan function, you will miss some of them, but it works. The best thing about this radio is the sound - the built in speaker puts out 1W and can be heard in even the noisiest of environments. Can't even keep up with the tinny sound of the UV-5R. If you are looking for a higher quality, louder and more sensitive radio than the UV-5R5, then this is your radio. You can't beat the price for the quality.
