My first impression of this Sangean DSP portable radio is that it looks good and sounds great on strong stations. The radio has a good weight and feel, but its body is noticeably plastic. The radio buttons are mostly responsive, with the exception of all the important settings buttons. I did find that I had to squeeze them a few times to set them up, but I'm hoping if they break a little the problem improves. The radio display is large and easy to read, except when it's backlit and you look directly at it, it disappears completely. It was almost a deal breaker for me until I agreed that this radio's display is meant to be read when the radio is laid down and supported on a stand. I didn't find this radio particularly sensitive during my daytime tuning experiments. When the radio's built-in antenna was fully extended on AM, the radio could only hear and acquire 1 local station, and on SW it could not hear or acquire any stations. Hope it improves with late night listening. The radio was able to hear and record a range of local FM stations and they sounded crisp, clear and natural. I found the radio fairly easy to understand and program and I love the choice of 12 hour or 24 hour time format. As a plus, the radio comes with a power adapter that allows you to charge rechargeable batteries in the radio when the radio is plugged in and turned off. It also works easily with alkaline batteries. In my opinion there are probably other radios under $100 that offer more value/dollar than this radio, but if you're looking for a sharp looking direct input portable DSP radio with some cool features to play with and Don't think about dropping the tuning knob and the level of receive sensitivity that might work for you. That being said I would recommend adding the external antenna clip to your basket when purchasing this radio. This will definitely make a noticeable difference when looking for weaker radios. UPDATE: As I was hoping, listening to AM and SW at night is vastly improved with an external antenna attached to the radio's telescopic antenna! The cost/$ of this purchase just went up for me. I will keep this radio in my collection.
