The pillow was in a compressed state when I received it, but plumped up by next morning. It's heavy compared to any other pillow I've ever had. It didn't feel as soft as I expected, so I thought my ear was going to ache (I'm a side sleeper), but that did't happen. I did stay at almost it's full height as I laid on it, but the filling did shift a little to above my head. Otherwise I would have given it a 5. Overall, it's a pretty good pillow.
