We live in a dark area with no street lights. The photos show that the lamp can be used as a standalone lamp to work on a car at night in very dark conditions. Settings: Low, High, Double High and Strobe with battery indicator (blue). The rotating stand makes this lantern very functional as a work lantern, rotating exactly where needed to keep the light. Loads very fast. You can also use it as a flashlight by using the rotating stand as a pen. I would recommend this flashlight for its functionality and seemingly good quality and solid build. I've been using it for 2 weeks so time will tell if it holds up.
