The instructions for this scale are clearly written by a non-English speaker, making them almost incomprehensible (and quite funny because they read like a crazy book). Here's what you need to know. When you put the batteries in you actually have to reverse the +/- contacts of the batteries so you are doing the opposite of what the picture shows in the battery holder (at least I did). There's also a button on the bottom of the scale that you have to press to tare the scale when you place it on a new surface (it reads differently on almost every surface in my house). When you tare it, it reads 3 pounds because that's the weight of the scale. The scale works quite accurately.
