Review on ๐Ÿ’พ ORICO Enclosure Tool Free Aluminum 2280 (M2L2 V03): Fast & Convenient SSD Storage Solution by Matt Bokil

Revainrating 3 out of 5

True tool-less installation, but the case feels a little flimsy

ORICO M.2 SSD Enclosure Toolless Aluminum USB3.1 Gen2 Type-C 10Gb/s External Adapter, External NVME PCI-e Adapter and M.2 NGFF SATA SSD supported (2230/2242/2260/2280) with USB AC to USB CC Cable (M2L2-NV03) The case comes in a beautifully printed box. Inside the box is a molded plastic tray to keep everything safe during transit. Inside you'll find the M2 body itself, two short connecting cables, one with USB-C on both ends and one with USB-C and USB-3 ends, a plastic bag with two tiny rubber mounts, a heat strip, and a fold-out instruction booklet . The booklet is printed in multiple languages but has very good pictures showing how to fit the M2 into the mount. Installing the M2 in this mount is easy. Inserting the M2 into the mount was a bit more of a hassle than I was expecting, and it popped out with an audible click, which was likely due to the drive being seated against the slot. Not 100% perfect, but at least you know he has a strong connection. The drive is held in place with a small silicone tab rather than a screw, making it truly tool-free to install and remove. The thermal pad has a blue side and a gray side that appear to be peeling off. I'm not sure if you need to remove these plastic covers or not as the instructions don't mention it. I'm going to remove the plastic strips as I don't think the thermal pad will be making much contact with those there. As you slide the lid in, the thermal pad tries to slide until the lid starts pushing against it, but it seems to stay in place for the most part. The lid closes tightly and I feel like I have a full closure. There seems to be some slight fit and finish issues with the build as when I plugged in the USB-c cable the short cap on the end of the case came loose. It looks like it just snaps open and may not have been fully installed when assembled at the factory. A few interesting notes in the instructions - in many places there are warnings about falls, bumps and falls. Not sure if it's a language difficulty or if they really want to make sure you don't drop it. Having dropped a plastic cover in my hand while assembling the M2, I'm a little concerned that this device might be very fragile.

  • Rugged and Secure
Cons
